Scott begynte å gå på skøyter da han var 4 år gammel, og allerede da drømte han om å spille i NHL. Han spilte på Frisk Asker fra 7 års-alderen, alltid 1 og 2 aldersgrupper over egen alder, og fikk æren av å representere Norge på alle aldersbestemte Ungdomslandslag fra U16, U18 til U20.
I VM 2007 var han med og bidro til at U18 landslaget avansert fra spill i gruppe B til spill i gruppe A for kommende sesong.
I VM 2009 bidro han sterkt til at U20 landslaget avansert fra spill i gruppe B til spill i gruppe A for kommende sesong.
Han ble kåret til VM`s ”Beste Forward” . Han scoret 5 mål, 8 assister, totalt 14 poeng i 5 kamper.
Våren 2007, 17 år gammel, bestemte han seg for å aktivt prøve å påvirke sin egen karriere og reiste alene til USA på ”try-outs”. Scott var bestemt på å gjøre alt han kunne for å nå målet sitt, og mente at skulle drømmen bli en realitet måtte han dra til sporten’s hjemland.Som følge av ”try-outs” fikk Scott tilbudt kontrakt med AAA laget, Russel Stover i Kansas City, og reiste dit i august 2007. Her ble Scott lagt merke til. Allerede i desember 2007 ble han kontaktet av flere Colleges med tilbud om utdannelse og plass på hockeylag.
I februar 2008 skrev han kontrakt med Colorado College, på D1 nivå, for 4 år med fullt stipend.
I mai 2008 ble han ”draftet” til USHL ligaen av Cedar Rapids Roughriders. For så å bli ”draftet” en måned senere av NHL laget Dallas Stars som nr. 89 i 3. runde, juni 2008. Et steg nærmere drømmen.
Han ble tilbudt en kontrakt med Dallas Stars men bestemte seg for at det var for tidlig og avtalte med Dallas Stars at han først skulle spille college hockey med CC Tigers i Colorado.
Som en del av Dallas Stars ”familien” reiste Scott hver sommer i 1 uke til Texas på ”Development Camp”. Her fikk han trent med Dallas Stars oppkommende talenter, og fikk oppleve å være sammen med Dallas Stars’ egne NHL spillere i sosiale lag.

Før Colorado ønsket Scott å prøve USHL ligaen, så på ettersommeren 2008 pakket han bilen og kjørte fra Kansas City til Cedar Rapids i Iowa for å spille for Cedar Rapids Roughriders.

Etter 1 år i USHL gikk veien videre til College hvor han spilte for Colorado College Tigers (CC Tigers) sesongene 2009 – 2013. Etter tiden sin i Colorado og etter fullført Bachelor grad i Business, fikk Scott tilbudt kontrakt med Texas Stars, i American Hockey League (AHL), for sesongen 2013-2014.

Scott Winkler started skating when he was four years old, and already at this time he dreamed of playing in the pro’s.
From age 7 he played for Frisk Asker Tigers, always one and two levels above his own age group. He also had the honor of representing Norway at all age-specific National Teams from U16, U18, and U20.
Spring 2007, at the age of 17, Scott was determined to actively influence his career and travelled to the United States for try-outs. To become the best player possible, and to make his dream a reality, he needed to be in America. As a result he got offered a contract with the AAA team, Russell Stover in Kansas City, and moved from Norway August 2007.
Scott got noticed his first year in the States. By December 2007, he was contacted by several Colleges offering scholarships to come play for their hockey teams. In February 2008, Scott Winkler signed a contract with Colorado College, a D1 level team, for four years with a full ride scholarship.
May 2008, Scott was drafted to the USHL league by Cedar Rapids Rough Riders, Iowa. A month later, June 2008, he got drafted by the NHL team Dallas Stars in the 3rd round, number 89 overall. One step closer to achieving his life-long dream.

Scott was offered a contract with the Dallas Starts but decided that it was too early and agreed with Dallas that he would first be going to play college hockey with the CC Tigers in Colorado.
As part of the Dallas Stars family, Scott Winkler, got invited to their Development Camp 1 week every summer in Texas. Here he trained with the Dallas Stars’ emerging talents and got to hang out with many of the Dallas Stars NHL players.

Before Colorado, Scott wanted to try the USHL league, so late summer of 2008 he packed up his car and drove from Kansas City to Cedar Rapids in Iowa to play for the roughriders.

Scott Winkler graduated with a Bachelor degree in Business, spring of 2013. He also had a contract in hand with the Texas Stars, in the American Hockey League (AHL), for the coming season 2013-2014.

Dear family Winkler, dear Norwegian Hockey family,
I had the honor and privilege of spending the last four years with Scott Winkler. He is one of my best friends, a teammate, and a brother. Johan asked me to write a little about Scott, and I apologize as I know that no words of mine could ever describe how amazing of a person he was.
